Tip-Top Appliances: Tips To Help You Avoid Appliance Repairs

Posted on

Home appliances are used on a daily basis and can help make a number of daily tasks easier. However, when they aren't working as they should, it can cause some major challenges. If one of your appliances is not working properly, there are a few things that you can check.

Washing Machines

One of the most common reasons for homeowners to call a professional for a washing machine is repair is from the machine moving violently at times. A a general rule, this is no cause for a repair. In fact, the solution is quite simple. All you need to do is pay more attention when you are putting clothes, towels, etc. in the washing machine. Make sure that they are evenly distributed around the center cylinder before turning the washing machine on. If you are still having problems, then you'll want to consult a professional.

Dryers

Although a dryer can need repair from a professional, there are a few things that you can look at first to see if you can fix the problem yourself. If the dryer doesn't seem to be drying clothes, check the lint filter. More often than not, you either forgot to clean it out or didn't clean it out very well. Doing this properly is important, otherwise the dryer vent could become clogged, causing reduced air flow and creating a fire hazard. If neither of these appear to be causing the dryer issues, a professional may need to be called.

Dishwashers

The home dishwasher can be indispensable, especially when you need dishes washed and have other things to do at the same time. One of the most common complaints is that dishes are not being cleaned completely. This is usually because of the spray arm. In many cases, there is food debris in the holes of the spray arm. It just needs a solid cleaning to eliminate the debris and allow the dishes to be sprayed with water efficiently.

Refrigerators

As a general rule, when your home refrigerator won't keep your food cool or is making really strange sounds, it needs to be repaired. However, you should check the coils first. These are located near the floor or on the back of the refrigerator. You can clean them with a mild detergent in diluted water and a toothbrush. You should also check the refrigerator dial, as you could have accidentally bumped it or your children could have messed with it, causing the fridge to not be on the appropriate temperature. If you are still having issues, a repair professional should be called.

Although there are some things that you can check to avoid having to call a professional (such as Appliance Doctor), sometimes you just have to make the call. A repair can ensure that your home appliance is ready to be used once again at full capacity.
